Search usage and tips

If you’re having difficulty finding results,
-Make sure the search options are unticked
-Check your spelling, try alternative spelling, or try using only components of the words
-Set the file type to the type of file you are looking for
-Set a size range for the file if you know it
-Arrange the results in order of size or type by clicking the tabs at the top of the results

If you don’t know what you want to download, then just type a random letter in the the search

If there are too many files too look for to find the ones you want, try a directory search (one of the options in the file type list that searches for folders only). This may allow you to find a folder with the specific files you want in it

(Note: recommended files can be downloaded free of there own websites, but the hub is much faster)

What anti virus software should I use?
-Either 'AVG' or 'zone alarm'-Avoid Norton like the plague, it's practically a virus itself, if you have it, replace it.I can't play a video file / no sound / so picture.
-This is because your media player can't play the file type, so you'll need one that can. VLC and DivX can play most files, try one (or both).
-If the sound still doesn't work, make sure your speakers are on.

I have a file, but don't know how to set it up (e.g. a game)
-If it doesn't simply work by double clicking, then it may have instructions with it, check for a word document, or a '.nfo' file. '.nfo' files may need to be opned in WordPad to read.I can't play a virtual CD/DVD (.iso), and and can't burn it to a real CD
-You need to use a 'virtual CD player' (which 'mounts' the virtual CD). 'Daemon tools' or 'Alcohol 120%' will do the job

Does anyone have '*****'?
-USE THE SEARCH!The search didn’t have it-Then no one does

When is '*****' out?
-WIKI IT!-http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Main_Page has information and release/air for most things. But just because it's out, doesn't mean you'll be able to get it straight away.

DC++ won’t connect to the hub
-The hub may be down - All you can do it wait
-You’ve been banned – All you can do is wait
-Your DC++ may not be set up correctly - Check setup step 3
-You may not be connected to resnet – Check your connection

Password required
-if a password is required, then the username has already been registered. 3 failed attempt at a password will result in a ban

Low share message
-You aren’t sharing enough - Consult step 3 of the setup
Slot message-You are not sharing enough slots -- Consult step 3 of the setup

Unable to view files of others
-Several possible reasons
-Make sure your DC++ is set up correctly
-Make sure your windows firewall is set to allow DC++
-There may be a problem with your DC++
-Restart DC++
-Restart your computer
-Reinstall DC++
-Try a different version of DC++ (make sure it’s a stable version)

Unable to download due to no slots available
-The uploader has reached there slot limit
–You will automatically start downloading when a slot becomes available

Unable to stop a download
-Go to view > download queue' and remove the file by right clicking the file and choosing remove

It disconnects
-Sometimes you will lose connection to the hub, I believe this is just because resnet is an unstable connection-Clicking the green “recycle” arrows should reconnect, if it doesn’t, the hub may be down

TTH inconsistency while downloading;-
go to File > settings > Downloads > Queue-In 'Other queue options', click the box next to 'Advanced resume using TTH-After downloading the file, go back and return this to as it was

Main chat rules
-No excessive swearing, or being offensive

Minor rules
-Try to stick to English in the main chat

-Use the search instead of asking in the main chat. If you can’t find it in search, no one has it, so don’t bother asking
-Don’t fragment downloads

How to set up the hub

1. Download DC++-Use Google to search for it-If you're a Mac user, download ShakesPeer instead-Download the newest stable version. There may be newer unstable versions, but they may still have bugs

2. Run the download to install DC++-Simply follow the onscreen instructions to install. If the installation doesn’t start automatically, click on the DC++ icon.

3. Setup DC++
-Run DC++ (from the start>programs menu, or from the desktop icon)-In the settings on DC++ (file>settings) you will need to fill in

Personal Info
-Nick- Your display name
-Line Speed- set to 100 mb/s

Connection Settings
-Direct Connection (firewall will not let you download)

Downloads
-chose where your downloads end up by filling in the download directory (or browse for a location)

Sharing
-Select the files and folders you wish to share (must total more than the required amount, currently 3 GB). (The files may take a while to hash, just wait)-Set the upload slots to above the required amount (currently 2)-Refer to “rules” for what is unacceptable too share.

-set DC++ to connect to the unishub
-Click on Favorite Hubs (from either the view tab, or click on the gold star)
-Click New
-Fill in you display name in to name
-Enter the address 'UNISHUB.DNSALIAS.COM', then click OK
-Check the auto connect tick box next to the hub name -Click connect to star the hub. If it does not connect, check the FAQ.

The DC++ hub is neither run, not managed by the university or the students union, and therefore, do not ask them for any help with the hub.
